California Air Resources Board Scoping Plan - More Opportunity to Comment!
The California Air Resource Board (CARB) Draft 2022 Climate Change Scoping Plan is a blueprint for how California will reach the state climate goals set forth in AB-32. The scoping plan is updated every 5 years and guides the state’s suite of climate strategies; it may potentially be used as a blueprint for other states and federal climate policy. Unfortunately, the CARB's draft Climate Change Scoping Plan requires little to no immediate action to reduce climate pollution, relies on a limited and incomplete health analysis, and does not incorporate the Environmental Justice Advisory Committees recommendations.
On June 23rd the Board held a public meeting on the Draft Plan and over 450 people provided verbal comment. CARB is now hosting in-person listening sessions to gather additional public comment. The first one will be in the Bay Area on Thursday, July 28 from 5:30-8p at Laney College. It will be especially powerful to have a large turnout of health professionals in our white coats, scrubs, and other emblems of our health work turn out to tell CARB we need a Scoping Plan that protects health and our communities and doesn't rely on false climate solutions. Can you join us?
Talking points (a huge thank you to Dr. Marjaneh Moini from SF Bay-PSR for creating these and allowing us to share them!)
SF Bay-PSR and PSR-LA are jointly hosting a session to prepare health professionals to give public comment on Tuesday, July 26 at 5p. You can register for that here! The event is co-sponsored by the Alliance of Nurses for Health Environments.
